Our Exhibits

The Vancouver Art Gallery presents exhibitions of work by artists ranging from historic masters to leading-edge contemporaries. These include major thematic exhibitions, presentations of solo artists and smaller, more focused showcases. In a typical year, 2 to 3 exhibitions are borrowed from other institutions and 10 to 12 exhibitions are developed in-house, drawing on our permanent collection and loans of works from around the world. In addition, the Gallery tours a few of its exhibitions each year.

ABOUT

Known for his enormous contribution to the canon of Western art in the 20th century, Pablo Ruiz y Picasso (1881–1973) is one of the masters of Modernism. Taking a fresh approach to the artist’s oeuvre, Picasso: The Artist and His Muses examines the impact of the six women who were inspirational to his artistic development: Fernande Olivier, Olga Khokhlova, Marie-Thérèse Walter, Dora Maar, Françoise Gilot and Jacqueline Roque. The publication features six texts by leading art writers and reproduces career-spanning works that illuminate the lives, personalities and creative pursuits of these women, who were all principal figures in Picasso’s personal life and strongly influenced his career.
