Presented in partnership with I Dream Library, the Young Activist Reading Room is an interactive installation designed to connect children, families and students of all ages with stories about access, relationship to land and identity in Canada.

Here you will find literary selections confronting the representation of popular subjects in the work of white settler women artists of the modern era, including the landscape, colonized peoples and the feminine. How can we re-consider the layers of power at play on each colourful canvas?

This room offers a moment to rest and encourages remembering as repair.

The Young Activist Reading Room is created in response to the exhibition Uninvited: Canadian Women Artists in the Modern Moment, on view at the Vancouver Art Gallery from June 11, 2022 to January 8, 2023.

Content Advisory: The books in this space are intended for a variety of ages and stages: young children, middle years and young adult+

Please note that some stories have mature content. Guardians are encouraged to accompany their children as they explore this space.
