Vancouver Now! Annie Briard

December 11, 2026–March 29, 2027

As part of the Vancouver Now! exhibition series, Annie Briard will present an immersive sensory environment that unfolds through direct encounter, challenging traditional frameworks of perception, enveloping the viewer and encouraging a slower, more attentive mode of looking.

Briard’s practice engages with the aesthetics and concerns of landscape imagery and affect theory, as well as photo conceptualism and the Light and Space movement—artistic traditions rooted in the West Coast. Her immersive, site-responsive installations often emerge from lens-based sources, examining how visual perception shapes our understanding of the world and of one another. Drawing on ideas from ecology, psychology and neuroscience, her work invites a heightened awareness of how we see, sense, interpret and feel.

Organized by the Vancouver Art Gallery and curated by Siobhan McCracken Nixon, Audain Associate Curator of BC Art
