Mumbai-based artist Reena Saini Kallat recreates migration routes across the world through a symbolic web of human and cultural movement and exchange. The expansion of urban spaces all around the world has led to mass migration and new social conflicts within the global social structure, provoking issues related to identity, survival and spiritual needs. As a city characterized by diversity, Vancouver’s urban and cultural landscapes are also in a state of constant transformation. Kallat’s sculpture evokes temporal and spatial strategies for dealing with global situations on a local level.

Organized by the Vancouver Art Gallery and curated by Diana Freundl, Assistant Curator. Offsite is funded by the City of Vancouver through the Public Art Program. The Gallery recognizes Ian Gillespie, President, Westbank; Ben Yeung, President, Peterson Investment Group; and the residents of Shangri–La for their support of this space.
