In the Gallery

Every Sunday, the Gallery offers unique activities geared toward 5- to 12-year-old visitors and their families. Throughout the month of September, we will continue to investigate the exhibition Alberto Giacometti: A Line Through Time as well as Vikky Alexander: Extreme Beauty and Robert Rauschenberg 1965-1980.

All activities are free for children aged 12 & under, when accompanied by an adult. Adult participation is with admission or free for Gallery Members.

Join our team of curious, funny and informed Art Agents as they bring the Gallery’s exhibitions to life. They engage with the exhibitions through in-gallery activities, questions, and conversations relating to what your family notices about the artworks on display.

Then move on to The Making Place which offers art-making activities inspired by the materials and processes that you see in the exhibitions on display. Drop in any time between 12 and 4 PM to take part.

The Making Place Activity

September 8: Materiality
Alberto Giacometti worked alongside many different artists that were looking at a new sense of realism that connected the artwork and the artist hand. Giacometti met and became friends with Canadian artist Jean-Paul Riopelle whom he shared a common interest in materiality.

Families are invited to explore the materiality of the artists within the exhibition; looking at the ways the artists used different materials to explore a different kind of realism. We will be using different texture paint mediums to play with materiality and movement on canvas.
