Weekly Family Programs

Sun Oct 6, 2019 | 12–4 PM

In the Gallery

Every Sunday, the Gallery offers unique activities geared toward 5- to 12-year-old visitors and their families. Throughout the month of October, we will continue to investigate the exhibitions Vikky Alexander: Extreme Beauty and Robert Rauschenberg 1965-1980.

All activities are free for children aged 12 & under, when accompanied by an adult. Adult participation is with admission or free for Gallery Members.

Join our team of curious, funny and informed Art Agents as they bring the Gallery’s exhibitions to life. They engage with the exhibitions through in-gallery activities, questions, and conversations relating to what your family notices about the artworks on display.

Then move on to The Making Place which offers art-making activities inspired by the materials and processes that you see in the exhibitions on display. Drop in any time between 12 and 4 PM to take part.

The Making Place Activity

October 6: Vikky Alexander: What are we really looking at?
Vikky Alexander creates an environment within her artwork that challenges the viewer on how to look. An example of this is in her furniture where the pieces reference elements that should be interacted with, but because of their materials, they remain just an object. The placements of images in combination with the structures give the audience the opportunity to question the meaning and how it’s presented.

Families will look closely at the use of furniture in Vikky Alexander’s artwork. We will be discussing the different interpretations of the images and structural elements. We invite families to create their own structures out of everyday materials, reflecting more on the concept rather than the functionality.
