In the Gallery

Drop in on Sundays to get creative as a family!

Every Sunday from 12 to 4 PM, the Gallery offers interactive activities designed for the whole family. Explore, chat and play in the exhibition spaces with our team of Art Agents. Then experiment with the materials, processes and ideas that you see in the artworks on display in The Making Place. Sundays are a great day to introduce your kids to art at the Gallery and continue to inspire their creativity.

FREE for children 12 and under, when accompanied by an adult.

Activities are designed for visitors aged 5- to 12-years-old, but all ages and abilities are welcome to participate.

March 8: Pastels Colour Palette Workshop

Emily Carr and her friend Statira Frame painted Indigenous villages influenced by European settlers’ ideas and perspectives. How do colour choices affect the story a painting tells?

ACTIVITY: Take a closer look at Emily Carr’s and Statira Frame’s colour choices in their paintings on view in Rapture, Rhythm and the Tree of Life: Emily Carr and Her Female Contemporaries. Sketch a forest scene inspired by what you see. Next, create a colour palette with your choice of pastels that expresses your mood or experience while you are in the forest.
