Weekly Family Programs

Sun Jul 21, 2019 | 12–4 PM

1st Floor

Every Sunday, the Gallery offers unique activities geared toward 5 to 12-year-old visitors and their families. Throughout the month of July, we will continue to investigate the exhibitions Views of the Collection: The Street, as well as the recently opened Alberto Giacometti: A Line Through Time.

All activities are free for children aged 12 & under, when accompanied by an adult. Adult participation is with admission or free for Gallery Members.

Join our team of curious, funny and informed Art Agents as they bring the Gallery’s exhibitions to life. They engage with the exhibitions through in-gallery activities, questions, and conversations relating to what your family notices about the artworks on display.

Then move on to The Making Place which offers art-making activities inspired by the materials and processes that you see in the exhibitions on display. Drop in any time between 12 and 4 PM to take part.

July 21: Movement and Form in Sculpture
Alberto Giacometti: A Line Through Time provides a perspective of the artist and his inspirations throughout his artistic career. Giacometti captures form and movements of the human body that is different from the realistic perspective. His process is reflective of his experiences with travel and art, with references from Cubism and Surrealism, as well as from African and Mediterranean cultures. We will be looking at the difference in the gaze or pose that is found in the sculptures to better understand how they capture movement and form. We will also look at how the different influences created a stylistic change. Families will be invited to work with molding materials to practice their own sculptures.
