The Making Place: What is a Street?

Sun Jun 9, 2019 | 12 AM

1st Floor

The urban street has been an important source of inspiration for artists since the Renaissance. Views of the Collection: The Street highlights the city street as a central space in which private and public realms intersect, where everyday life, challenges and chance encounters play out. But what makes a street a street? Why is this major piece of infrastructure so important in any city? What is it made of? Where do they lead? Families are invited to dig deeper into the idea of the street. Together, we will look at the different features that make up a street. What communication do we receive in our day-to-day lives from the street? Who makes these traffic rules and why? Explore your own experience of the street while working with different materials to express those interactions.
