The Making Place: Asian Heritage Month Edition

Sun May 31, 2026 | 11 AM–4 PM

Room 4East

Join us for a special edition of The Making Place in celebration of Asian Heritage Month!

On Sunday, May 31, 2026, Vancouver–based artist Vanessa Lam will lead two workshops on exploring your expressive self through making.

Workshop with Vanessa Lam
Freedom of Expressive Collage and Drawing

Session 1: 11 AM–1:30 PM

Session 2: 1:30–3 PM

Through short, free-form drawing and painting exercises, each session focuses on loosening up, building confidence and experimenting with intuitive mark-making using simple materials.

These initial drawings then become the starting point for playful collage explorations, alongside an introduction to collage techniques and approaches for continuing to develop your creative intuition.

Centred on exploration and experimentation, these workshops encourage curiosity and spontaneity in artmaking.

Please note that advanced registration is required. No experience necessary—just an open mind.

The Making Place is open to all ages and is included with Gallery admission. Admission is always free for Gallery Members, Access Pass Holders and children and youth aged 18 and under. Children aged 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

In the Gallery Lobby, there will be a special tissue paper landscapes activity, inspired by the work of Takao Tanabe and Lui Shou-Kwan in Highlights from the Collection.

At 2 PM, join a Family Tour of the exhibition Highlights from the Collection.

Guided Family Tours are designed for visitors aged 5 to 12 years old and their families, and they are a great way to delve deeper into the exhibitions together. Sign up for a same-day tour on the day of your visit in The Making Place.
