Vancouver is one of North America’s most important gateways to Asia and now has one of the fastest growing Asian populations in the world. This fall, to better reflect the communities that we serve, the Vancouver Art Gallery’s Institute of Asian Art launches Tan Yishu, a Mandarin-language lecture series of art talks.

Introduction to Canadian Art
with a focus on art from British Columbia

Born in China, Gu Xiong is a multimedia artist, living and working in Vancouver, BC. He received his BFA and MFA degrees from the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in Chongqing, China, and is currently a professor in the Department of Art History, Visual Art and Theory at the University of British Columbia. Gu teaches and researches in the disciplines of installation, painting, drawing, photography and contemporary art theory. He has exhibited nationally and internationally in more than 40 solo exhibitions, including Beyond Image (Hubei Museum of Art, Wuhan, China, 2015); Voice of the Unseen: Chinese Independent Art 1979–Today (55th Venice Biennale Parallel Exhibition, Venice, 2013); and Border Zones: New Art Across Cultures (Museum of Anthropology, Vancouver, 2010).

中國出生，顧雄是一位旅居加拿大的華裔多媒體藝術家。在中國重慶的四川美術學院獲得了藝術學士學位和藝術碩士學位。目前作為加拿大英屬哥倫比亞大學藝術系的教授。教學及研究涉及廣泛，包括裝置、架上畫、素描、、數碼、錄像、 和當代藝術理論。迄今為止，顧雄已經舉辦了四十多次個人畫展，並參與了超過一百次國內與國際知名的群體展覽。群展包括：2015中國湖北省美術館“再影像”；2013 第55屆威尼斯雙年展平行展“未曾呈現的聲音”; 2010 加拿大溫哥華人類學博物館“文化跨越”藝術展。
