Library Display: Exhibitions from the Eastern Bloc Presented in China, 1960s–1980s

In association with the exhibition Multiple Realities: Experimental Art in the Eastern Bloc, 1960s–1980s, a special display has been set up in the Gallery’s Library & Archives featuring catalogues of exhibitions from Central Eastern European countries that travelled to the People’s Republic of China from the 1960s to the 1980s.

These exhibitions communicated themes of nationalism, prosperity and development in the wake of China’s alliance with the socialist world and often featured socialist realist painting, folk art, propaganda posters and photography.

與溫哥華美術館當期展覽「多元現實：東歐集團的實驗藝術，1960至1980年代」相聯繫，此處展示的圖錄選自1960至1980年代東歐國家巡迴至中華人民共和國的展覽。這些展覽傳達了與中國結盟的社會主義國家的民族主義、繁榮與社會發展等主題，展品多為社會寫實主義繪畫、民間藝術、宣傳海報和攝影。
