Presenting a Korean-language tour of Jin-me Yoon: About Time

Join us at the Gallery for a Korean-language tour of Jin-me Yoon: About Time led by special guest Euijung McGillis, Assistant Curator of Photographs Collection at the National Gallery of Canada.  McGillis will lead us on a self-reflective tour of Yoon’s artistic journey across time and place.  Two tours are scheduled at 2pm and 6pm. The 6pm tour will be followed by an informal sharing session with tea and Korean traditional desserts.

Schedule

  • Tour 1 starts at 2 PM
  • Tour 2 begins at 6 PM; followed by an informal sharing session with tea and desserts

Currently on exhibit, Korean-born Vancouver artist Jin-me Yoon explores the themes of identity, memory, place and displacement through photography, video and installation.  Oscillating past, present and future, About Time presents Yoon’s key works of the last decade, addressing the artist’s concerns on the impact of entangled history of colonialism, imperialism and militarism on our interconnectedness to the world. Yoon’s work is distinguished by a poetic, cinematic aesthetic–one that is deeply contemplative and undergirded by an examination of our position in the world as it is reflected in and shaped by ideas of history and memory, land and ocean.

About the Guest

Euijung McGillis is an art curator, educator, and art historian. Her research focuses on Asian Canadian lens-based art practices within a broader framework of comparative diaspora studies.  Her curatorial interests address how visual cultures reflect and shape experiences of migration and diasporic subjectivity informed by personal and collective memories around them. Euijung frequently facilitates in-person and virtual tours of Jin-me Yoon’s work, inviting visitors to a self-reflective experience through ‘slow looking’ since the artist’s exhibition Here Elsewhere Other Hauntings was digitally presented at the Carleton University Art Gallery in 2021.  She is currently Assistant Curator of Photographs Collection at the National Gallery of Canada.
