Art Rental & Sales, operated by the Vancouver Art Gallery, is pleased to present an artist talk with Featured Artist Angie Quintanilla Coates on Friday, October 2, 2026 at 6 PM in the AR&S Showroom.
In her showcase Hope for Everything, Quintanilla Coates transforms strangely shaped pieces of reclaimed wood into bold, colourful compositions. Materials that once seemed too difficult to incorporate into her practice became an opportunity to experiment, adapt and find new possibilities within unexpected forms.
Inspired by Mexican tile design and folk art, Quintanilla Coates uses repetition, shape and saturated colour to create movement and rhythm. Her work reflects her belief in colour as both a cultural and deeply personal language, inviting viewers to pause, celebrate and experience what she calls dopamina mexicana.
