Celebrate Family Day at the Gallery!

This Family Day, take inspiration from current exhibitions Emily Carr: A Room of Her Own, Denyse Thomasos: just beyond, Rooted Here: Woven from the Land and Offsite: Pedro Reyes, and discover ways to learn, dream and connect through art.

Join us for a series of activities that encourage children and their families to explore their creativity and immerse themselves in art.

FREE for kids 12 and under, when accompanied by an adult. Free for Gallery Members or with admission. Youth 18 and under always visit free!

*Please note that the guided family tours require pre-registration on the day of your visit at the Family Day Information Desk.

Family Day Activities:

 

1st Floor:

  • Get creative in a self-guided painting session in the Annex Workshop inspired by the work of Denyse Thomasos. Drop-in anytime between 11 AM and 4 PM.
  • Participate in an educational and interactive guided tour of Rooted Here: Woven from the Land at 12:30 PM and 2:30 PM. Sign up at the Family Day Information Desk.
  • Honour Black history and envision Black futures in the Rotunda with poet in residence, Jillian Christmas, who will read her children’s book The Magic Shell at 11 AM and 1 PM.
  • Join I Dream Library in the Rotunda to celebrate the release of Imagine a Garden, a Kid Lit book of poetry and art that shares seven real-life stories of ordinary people doing extraordinary things for their communities amidst war, poverty and violence. Listen to a reading at 12 PM or 2 PM. Find out more »
  • Create paper flowers in the Gallery Lobby to contribute to a hanging installation inspired by themes of transformative community building and the intersections of activism and art. Drop-in any time between 11 AM and 4 PM.
  • Sign up for an interactive walking session to visit Pedro Reyes’ installation PACE IN SPACE! at Offsite, located at 1100 West Georgia Street, at 11 AM and 1 PM. Pre-registration required online or at the Family Day Information Desk.

2nd Floor:

  • Delve deeper into exhibitions through a guided tour of Denyse Thomasos: just beyond at 11:30 AM 1:30 PM. Pre-registration required at the Family Day Information Desk.

3rd Floor:

4th Floor

  • Learn about Emily Carr through a self-guided tour of Emily Carr: A Room of Her Own. Follow the signs and pick up tour materials in Room 4East.
  • Head up to Room 4East to create a watercolour postcard inspired by the works in the exhibition Emily Carr: A Room of Her Own.
  • Take a break in the Rooftop Pavilion, and relax in the Family Chill-Out Lounge with books, games and places to sit.
