Twilight Hour is a speaker series hosted by the Painting and Photography programs in the Audain Faculty of Art at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. The series is organized by Elizabeth McIntosh and Gonzalo Reyes Rodriguez.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Eva Respini is an internationally renowned curator and arts leader and is Interim Co-CEO and Curator at Large at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Respini served as the curator and co-commissioner for the 2022 U.S. Pavilion’s presentation of Simone Leigh at the 59th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia. She organized the highly successful mid-career survey of Simone Leigh’s work, which opened at the ICA/Boston in April 2023, and is touring across the United States through 2025.
Between 2015 and 2023, Respini was Deputy Director and Barbara Lee Chief Curator at the Institute of Contemporary Art Boston (ICA/Boston). There, she curated over a dozen exhibitions, including ambitious thematic exhibitions Art in the Age of the Internet and When Home Won’t Let You Stay: Migration through Contemporary Art. Prior to her tenure at the ICA/Boston, she served as Curator at the Museum of Modern Art for more than a decade, where she curated numerous acclaimed exhibitions, including retrospectives of Cindy Sherman and Walid Raad.
Respini has been a visiting lecturer, critic, and speaker at a number of universities and taught a seminar on curatorial practice at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design for five years. She has published numerous books and catalogues, and her writing appears in museum publications and periodicals.
