Croquis by Fakeknot

Fri Sep 1, 2023 | 4 PM - 8 PM

Vancouver Art Gallery

Please join us on the September edition of Free First Friday Nights for a participatory performance that spans dance, movement, fashion, space and architecture. Croquis invites the audience to partake in its improvisatory style and encourages participation and moments of reflection. Croquis will feature special musical guest, Benny Bastillo a.k.a BOYFRIENDYVR.

Croquis is an interdisciplinary performance by FakeKnot that was inspired by and riffs off of the exhibition Fashion Fictions. The artist produced the works used in the performance within Lab Here//Too//For—a satellite lab initiated by Material Matters from Emily Carr University of Art + Design.

Croquis is a durational performance, staged and costume designed by Ralph Escamillan. The solo explores the idea of a “croquis”—a quick, expressive sketch of a garment or ensemble that brings an artist’s design to life. Here the pencil becomes the body and the paper becomes a modular canvas., The solo tussles with one’s desire to imprint and archive themself into space.

The performance will take place throughout the evening between 4–8 PM, with moments outside of the building and indoors.

Key times of the performance are from 5:45–6:15 PM and 6:45–7:15 PM.
