Art At Any Age: Moving and Making is a seven-week series of free, social and educational opportunities designed by and for seniors (aged 55+). The program aims to enrich participants’ lives through art by encouraging connection and fostering an improved sense of wellbeing. Each week will offer new ways for seniors to gather at the Gallery, including for tea and tour sessions, art discussions and intergenerational workshops, all inspired the exhibitions on display.
Tour and Tea: Words and Movement
Wednesday, December 4, 2024 | 10 AM
Led by Kathryn Ricketts, in dialogue with Emily Carr: A Room of Her Own.
In this session, we will explore how we can use our bodies and gestures to respond to the landscapes of Emily Carr through light movements—outside but also within.
Please wear comfortable clothes, and bring your playful spirits.
Please note that this session is a 2-hour commitment, and we expect you to stay for both the tour, workshop and tea components. The program will conclude by 12 PM.
After the tour, you are welcome to peruse the galleries as your registration includes access to the exhibitions for the rest of the day.
Art At Any Age is open to Gallery Members and to the public. Advance registration is required. All sessions will take place at the Vancouver Art Gallery at 750 Hornby Street.
Please note that registration for each session will open at 10 AM two weeks prior to the event date.
Art At Any Age is organized by the Vancouver Art Gallery in collaboration with Dr. Kathryn Ricketts, a professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Regina, and in consultation with an advisory group of seniors. Ricketts has worked in dance, theatre and the visual arts for over 45 years and has developed numerous projects that explore how creative work with seniors can improve quality of life.
This program is made possible through the generous support of the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP).
