Performance: In the wake of a sleeping machine by Shion Skye Carter

in the wake of a sleeping machine is a dance performance choreographed by Shion Skye Carter and performed by danielle Mackenzie Long, Kayla DeVos, Kaya Tsurumi and Shana Wolfe. Carter’s artistic practice peels apart layers of identity and reflects on the complexities of the human experience through a movement language of sensitive intensity, hybridizing choreography with heritage art forms, like calligraphy, and interweaving materiality into performance. In in the wake of a sleeping machine, the dancers form an organic, creature-powered machine—an abstract exploration of collective care, interdependence and resistance to individualist systems.

Performance: Landings for Six by Action at a Distance

Landings for Six by Action at a Distance invites audiences to pause in liminal spaces often traversed but rarely inhabited. Moving through thresholds, corridors and transitional architectures, the work lingers inside moments of suspension, spaces where memory, intimacy and encounter quietly accumulate. Expanding on the narrative world of Between the Landings (2024), created in collaboration with Justin Calvadores and Dorchel Haqq, this iteration explores how sound, proximity and collective presence reshape our experience of movement through institutional and urban space. Through subtle choreographic interventions, six performers transform overlooked environments into spaces of reflection, tension and connection. Choreographed by Vanessa Goodman and performed by collaborating artists Shion Skye Carter, Alder Graye, Ryan Jackson, Allison Lang, danielle Mackenzie Long and Anya Saugstad. Created with generous support from The Dance Centre.
