The Young Associates are a dynamic group of young professionals between the ages of 19 and 45 who want to expand their involvement in the contemporary art world while supporting the Vancouver Art Gallery in a meaningful way. In addition to all the benefits of basic Membership, YAs are invited to three exclusive events per year, providing social networking opportunities in conjunction with the Gallery’s exhibition program.

The much anticipated annual Young Associates Rendezvous on the Rooftop is back. On Thursday, July 26, enjoy an exciting evening of art and cocktails on the rooftop while networking with other young professionals and YA members. Immerse yourself within the world of Emily Carr and the forests of the West Coast. Rendezvous will enjoy private tours of the Emily Carr in Dialogue with Mattie Gunterman exhibition on the 4th floor as well as some fun creative activities!

YA Murakami Reception and Private Tour
Takashi Murakami: The Octopus Eats Its Own Leg

The Takashi Murakami private tour on April 18th allowed members and non-members afterhours access to the highly successful exhibition, skipping the long lines and crowded galleries.  Attendees enjoyed a glass of wine with fellow art enthusiasts and private tours lead by one of the Vancouver Art Galleries top educators, Marie France.

Vancouver Art Gallery Basement
2018 Catacombs Tour

Young Associates members toured the facilities and behind the scenes of the art gallery with Tom Meighan Associate Director/Director of Operations and Museum Services. Attendees visited the art storage vault, workshops, conservation lab and the infamous catacombs of the old law courts. Tom provided valuable insights into the behind the scenes workings of the gallery, how much work and effort it takes to put on an exhibition and how the new gallery will take shape.

Holiday Party Portrait of an Artist

Young Associates hosted their annual Holiday Party alongside the exhibition Portrait of the Artist: An Exhibition from the Royal Collection, with private tours and access to the exhibition attendees also decorated selfie themed gingerbread men and curated abstract selfie portraits.

Vancouver Art Gallery Rooftop
Rendezvous on the Rooftop with Monet

On Thursday, July 13, YA Members and paid guests got to enjoy an exciting evening of art, games and cocktails on the rooftop and capped it off with a private tour of the Claude Monet exhibition. These private tours, hosted by the Vancouver Art Gallery’s educators, presented thirty-eight paintings from the collection of the Musée Marmottan Monet, in Paris.
