Summer Street Team
Join the Gallery Street Team this summer for the duration of our highly anticipated exhibition everywhere is anywhere is everything is anything by Douglas Coupland!

Commitment:
2 months
• May 31, through to September 1, 2014
(with the opportunity to continue as a member of the Street Team in late July and through to the beginning of September)
• Shifts:     2 hour shifts, 2-5 times a week

Overview:
As a Street Team Volunteer you will be out and about around Vancouver working within a team to encourage visitors and residents to experience and enjoy the Gallery this summer. This program gives the applicant the opportunity to interact with visitors from all over the world, and a chance to learn more about the Vancouver Art Gallery, its exhibitions and programming. This goal will be accomplished by working closely with the Tourism Marketing Manager.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):
• Provide information about Gallery exhibitions/programs • Provide visitor information for parking, general information about the Gallery and downtown area • Encourage and direct visitors and residents in downtown Vancouver to the Gallery • Assist in making connections between visitors and exhibition by giving visitors knowledge and information • Assisting with functions and special events at the Gallery

Qualifications:
• Minimum Intermediate English Level • Must enjoy being outside and mingling with the public • Friendly and outgoing with an interest in knowing more about the Vancouver Art Gallery and our exhibitions and programs • Confident in public situations • Interest and/or background in Tourism • People person, excellent customer service

Recognition/Benefits:
• Unlimited access to the exhibits • Option to participate in industry events • Letter of reference upon completion of the project • Invitation to the end of summer special recognition party • Opportunity to win prizes, including a night’s stay and breakfast for two at one of Vancouver’s top hotels

Summer Ambassador Program
Gallery Ambassadors work in our lobby greeting and orienting visitors on exhibitions and programs, and also special events such as Opening Receptions and FUSE.

Commitment:
4 months
• April/June through to September, 2014
• Shifts:     4 hour shifts, 1 times a week

Overview:
The Program gives the applicant the opportunity to interact with visitors from all over the world, and a chance to learn more about the Vancouver Art Gallery, and its exhibitions and programming. This goal will be accomplished by working closely with the Visitor Experience Team under the direct supervision of the Volunteer Coordinator and the Tourism Marketing Manager. Regular evaluations, both formal and informal will allow for a productive and fun learning experience. Gallery Ambassadors also receive unlimited access to the Gallery and will be given opportunities to participate in industry events and the 14th Annual Tourism Passport Challenge on behalf of the Gallery.

Duties will include:
• Assisting Admissions & Membership • Manning the Information/ Concierge Desk • Welcoming and informing visitors of what is happening in the Gallery • Conducting Visitor Satisfaction/ Experience Index surveys • Assisting with functions and special events at the Gallery

Qualifications:
• Minimum Intermediate English Level • Friendly and outgoing with an interest in knowing more about the Vancouver Art Gallery and our exhibitions and programs • Confident in public situations • Interest and/or background in Tourism & Hospitality • Excellent customer service with ability to problem solve

How To Apply:

1. Below are all volunteer positions within the Vancouver Art Gallery. All available positions have an application form link that says “click here” that you will need to complete. All fields with an asterisk symbols are mandatory fields and your application will not be accepted unless the application form is complete. If you are applying for more than one volunteer position you will need to complete the application form associated with each open position.
*Please note that all positions below will indicate whether we are accepting new volunteers or not. If we are not accepting volunteers for that particular position the application form will not be received.

2. Make sure you are able to make the commitment. Our volunteers are required to make a minimum commitment for each of the volunteer positions listed below.

3. Make sure you are eligible. You must meet these requirements:
• Be fluent in English
• Be able to commit
• Be able to attend orientation and any training
• Be eligible to volunteer in Canada

SCHOOL PROGRAMS

Docent Progam
Next Docent Training Course starts September 2014
A challenging and dynamic six-month training program prepares volunteer docents to lead school tours through the exhibitions. If you enjoy talking about art and working with young people, have an open mind and can make a two-year commitment, this program may be for you.

Commitment:
2 years
• Training:   Tuesday’s 12:30–3pm
• Shifts:        Monday–Thursday, 9-11:45am or 12:45–2:45pm

Tour Liaison/ Workshop Assistant
Tour Liaisons welcome school groups and prepare them for their visit to the Gallery as well as assist during art-making workshops for students. Tour Liaison/Workshop Assistant shifts are three hours long on weekday mornings and afternoons.

Commitment:
6 months
• Term 1:   September–December    or    Term 2:   January–June
• Shifts:     Monday–Thursday, 9-11:45am or 12:45–2:45pm

CHILDREN AND FAMILY PROGRAMS

Art Agents & The Making Place will need a team of super keen volunteers. They will work with our education staff to facilitate the children’s early encounters with art. Bold, whimsical and funny volunteers are needed!
Art Agent Volunteers
Every Saturday Art Agent Volunteers work together with the Art Agents to facilitate children’s early encounters with art. Bold, whimsical and funny volunteers are needed!

Commitment:
3 months
• Term 1:   January–June    or    Term 2:   July–December
• Shifts:     Sundays, 11am–4:30pm

The Making Place Volunteers
The Making Place features both collaborative and independent art activities. Program instruction includes materials and instruction for all kinds of art making.

Commitment:
3 months flexible schedule
• Term 1:   January–June    or    Term 2:   July–December
• Shifts:     Sundays, 11am–4:30pm

Family FUSE Weekend Volunteers
Expect the unexpected and consider the absurd as artists, dancers, musicians, filmmakers and other creative artists lead workshops, performances, tours and activities proving that there are no limits to the imagination.

Commitment:
2-6 months
Family FUSE Weekend runs 3 times a year
Spring Family FUSE Weekend: Mar 8-9, 2014

Ambassador Program

Concert Liaison
Volunteers greet and direct the public to noon-hour concert series scheduled on select Fridays.

Art Rentals & Sales
The Art Rental & Sales Program gives the applicant the opportunity to learn about local art, meet the artists who make the work, and add to our client’s experience in the Showroom. Volunteers contribute on a variety of special projects, showroom tours, and administrative tasks. The work can be physically demanding so strength and flexibility is required.

Commitment:
1 year
• Shifts:     One 4-hour-shift, 3 to 4 times a month

Gallery Store
Volunteers in the Gallery Store help organize the display of new products, assist visitors and support the retail sales staff.
