Associates are invited to attend the following exclusive special events and art travel programs, to which additional fees apply.
  • Occasional visits to private art collections and corporate collections
  • Opportunities to tour public art in the Vancouver area with knowledgeable guides
  • Invitations to local, national and international art travel programs. Recent cities visited include Paris, Montreal, New York and Victoria
  • Invitations to the Associates' Annual Gala
  • Opportunities to socialize with other visual arts supporters over fine food in attractive venues

Associates Vancouver General Hospital Guided Art Tour

Art has the power to transform and transport. From postmodern abstractions to BC landscapes, the waiting rooms, corridors and courtyards of VGH and UBC Hospitals are home to a collection of more than 2000 works of art built from generous donations and featuring some of Canada’s most acclaimed modern artists.

On Wednesday, March 15, enjoy a private tour of highlights from the Art Collection at VGH and experience the impact of contemporary art in a hospital setting. The tour will include a reception with refreshments.

COST*: $50/Associates

Location: Vancouver General Hospital (899 W 12th Ave). The tour will meet in front of the Info Desk in the Main Lobby of the Jim Pattison Pavilion with the tour beginning at 5:30pm. For those who are driving, there is pay parking available in the parkade on the corner of West 12 Ave and Laurel Street. Take the pedestrian overpass from the 4th floor of the parkade to the Main Lobby of the Jim Pattison Pavilion

Associates Trip To Ottawa
Celebrate Canada's 150th Anniversary, the blossoming of fresh tulips and terrific art with your fellow Associate Members in the beautiful city of Ottawa. Members will enjoy visits to artist studios, art collections, as well as private tours to museums and other significant sites.

COST*:*: $2100 per person, including $300 donation (with tax receipt)

Monday Morning Art Study Group

The study group meets Every second Monday in room 302 of the Vancouver Art Gallery to view art DVDs, listen to talks and enjoy discussion, or occasionally to hear a speaker. Sessions typically run from 11am to noon.

New to the Associates? In this informal setting you don’t need a background in art, and you’ll meet others who share your interest in art. Join the study group in room 302 every second Monday, doors open at 10:30AM with refreshments available. Registration not required.

The Associates’ Monday Morning study group resumes on January 9, 2017, with a close look at Vincent Van Gogh’s The Sunflowers.

Non-members are welcome on a one-time basis and for a fee of $20 cash at the door. . Plan to arrive in time for the start of the program at 11am in Room 302 (one of the old courtrooms) in the annex of the Gallery and finish by noon. Come early for refreshments and socializing. Note that the schedule below does not follow the usual pattern due to the Associates’ trip to Winnipeg and the May holiday Monday.

Art Studio Visits

Throughout the year, the Associates also visit artist studios to witness first-hand the artist's creative process and to discuss his or her work. Visits to commercial galleries and galleries are occasionally offered.

    Artist's Studio Tour: Denna Erickson
    10.30AM, 208 – 1000 Parker Street, Vancouver. Directions »
    Denna uses oil on wood and plaster, often combining encaustic and transfer techniques to produce paintings of personal symbols and organic shapes layered in glazes of luminescent colour. A no-host lunch will follow at Five Elements (Vietnamese & Thai), 1046 Commercial Drive.

    Artist's Studio Tour: Bobbie Burgers
    10.30AM, 20 Orwell Street - North Vancouver. Directions »
    The increasingly abstract paintings of Bobbie’s flowery landscapes will be on view at her warehouse-sized studio. Address of no-host lunch to be confirmed. There may be a $5 charge to cover the cost of artists’ lunch.

Art in the Morning

The Associates meet on the third Friday of the month at 10am for a guided tour of a current Gallery exhibition.

These popular guided tours of current exhibitions at the Vancouver Art Gallery resume after our winter hiatus on Friday, January 20. Meet docent Darlene Forrester by the coat check in the gallery lobby for a one-hour guided tour of Vancouver Special: Ambivalent Pleasures, followed by a discussion.
