opportunities. And, the Gallery remains extremely proud of all that we accomplish in our ambitious publications
program which produces important scholarship that lives on long after our exhibitions close.
In collaboration with our Visionary Partners, we launched two unprecedented community initiatives in the
past twelve months including, for the first time in the Gallery’s history, free admission for children ages twelve
and under every Sunday, which started in January 2014. This initiative allows children to have free and regular
access to all of the Gallery’s exhibitions and Weekly Family Programs. We were also very excited to introduce
a multi-year initiative to provide subsidized Gallery memberships for post-secondary students pursuing visual
art studies in British Columbia. The first phase of this new program was launched in September 2013 at
Emily Carr University of Art + Design and will expand in stages across the whole of British Columbia during
the next five years.
These are just a few of the highlights from this stellar year. It represents a continuation of the collective
efforts of this amazing institution in creating and delivering exhibitions and programs of the highest standards
to inspire and engage our many audiences. As I look forward—both to the coming year and further into the
future—I see incredible momentum and opportunities to achieve so much more for the Vancouver Art Gallery.
I am deeply grateful to our staff and volunteers for their tireless work and unwavering commitment to the
Gallery; to our Board of Trustees for its leadership, advocacy and generosity; to the extraordinary artists with
whom we are so privileged to collaborate; and to our members, donors and funders for their generous support.
I hope you share our pride in this amazingly successful year!
