The Gallery continued to place a focus on teens through the continuation of its Teen Art
Group (TAG). This year’s exciting, eight-month TAG program, offered in partnership with Emily

Carr University of Art + Design, included artist-led workshops, portfolio development and
behind-the-scenes access to artist and instructor studios, and culminated with an online
exhibition of artwork created by youth participants. This year, for the first time, the Gallery
also offered a special two-day symposium for 100 secondary school students in art, humanities
and science classes titled Water: A Think Tank for Youth on Art and Ideas . This symposium,
programmed in partnership with the Vancouver Aquarium and Metro Vancouver, focused on

the subject of water and its fundamental place in the world’s ecology, using photographs from
the Gallery’s exhibition A Terrible Beauty: Edward Burtynsky and the artist’s groundbreaking
film Watermark as points of reference. Students participated in guided tours of the Vancouver
Aquarium and Metro Vancouver’s watersheds, as well as exhibition tours and project workshops
at the Gallery.
