Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller

June 21 to September 21, 2014
Organized by the Vancouver Art Gallery in collaboration with the Art Gallery of Ontario and curated by Bruce
Grenville, Senior Curator, Vancouver Art Gallery and Kitty Scott, Curator of Modern & Contemporary Art, Art
Gallery of Ontario

Representing twenty years of collaboration, Lost in the Memory Palace celebrates the unique partnership of inter-
nationally renowned installation and sound artists Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller. The pair’s interest in
producing compelling environments for interactive experiences has gained them a strong international audience.
With nine works, this exhibition offered a focused theme of “the room” within a comprehensive overview of their
collaborative history.
The room as a site of narrative production has a long and diverse history in art, but few artists have approached
it with the imaginative focus, intensity and persistence of Cardiff and Miller. While both artists have had extensive
individual practices, they have produced some of their most provocative works in this collaboration.
