Cock and Bull

March 8 to June 8, 2014
Organized by the Vancouver Art Gallery and curated by artist Myfanwy MacLeod with Grant Arnold, Audain Curator
of British Columbia Art

Presented in conjunction with Myfanwy MacLeod, or There and Back Again , this exhibition featured work from the
Gallery’s permanent collection that was selected by Myfanwy MacLeod following the model of the “cock and bull
story”: an improbable tale passed off as the truth. Taken together, the works that made up the exhibition engaged
with imbalances of power in the art world—inequities that MacLeod sees as representative of the world at large—
while addressing the conflict between art and commerce, the tension between high art and popular entertainment
and the desire to make something “socially relevant.”
